Washi has been used in Japan for centuries and is known for its delicate texture, strength, and the gentle way it diffuses light. When illuminated, Washi creates a soft, calming glow that brings warmth and quietness into any space.
In this workshop, you’ll learn about the history of Washi and its unique characteristics, then create your own original lampshade using authentic Japanese paper. The process is simple, relaxing and enjoy making something by hand.
No prior experience is needed. Beginners are warmly welcome.
You’ll be able to take your finished lamp shade home and enjoy its gentle light in your daily life.
日本の伝統素材 和紙 を使った、和紙ランプシェード作りのワークショップです。
和紙は、何世紀にもわたり日本の暮らしの中で使われてきた紙で、やわらかな質感と、光を優しく包み込む特性が魅力です。灯りを入れると、空間に静かで温かな光が広がります。
このワークショップでは、和紙の歴史や特徴を学びながら、オリジナルのランプシェードを制作します。工程はシンプルで、ものづくりに集中しながら、心を落ち着けて過ごせる時間となります。
特別な経験は必要ありません。初心者の方も安心してご参加いただけます。
完成したランプシェードはお持ち帰りいただき、日常の中で和紙の灯りをお楽しみください。
About instructor:
Hello, I’m Nene Hosaka, a Japanese artist based in Melbourne.
I come from an area in Japan where Mino washi is traditionally produced, and I’ve always loved working with my hands.
In my workshops, I don’t aim to teach “skills” in a strict way. Instead, I create a space where people can slow down, listen to their hands, and make something that feels personal. Come and enjoy a relaxed, creative time while learning about a traditional Japanese craft.
