Yukata Self Dressing Workshop

Yukata is one of the traditional kimonos worn during summer time. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could dress kimono yourself? In this workshop, you can learn basic Yukata self-dressing and a bow style obi knot. Feel free to take photos of yourself in beautiful Yukata in front of Japanese-themed walls and Tatami-mat at Japaneasy. The ideal age for this workshop is 12+. Price $40 Yukata set hire optional +$20(booking essential)
You will need;
Women: One women’s Yukata (Alternately, you can use any kimono), Hanhaba Obi (half width obi) and Two Koshihimo.
Men: One Men’s Yukata (or Kimono), one Kaku Obi and one Koshihimo.
You can also purchase Yukata for $70, Obi for $40 and Koshihimo for $10 before the lesson. ( but the number of the stock is limited )

SUMI-E INK WORKSHOP 墨絵ワークショップ

Let’s experience Sumi-e and create a unique piece of art to take home. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers, mountains and birds.
There is much more to creating an image during the process of Sumi-e, it is also meditative practice to explore and express your inner self.
You will learn to use different ink tones and brush techniques to create some simple and expressive paintings on Japanese Washi paper such as blossoms, an owl, Koi fish and gum trees. All the materials will be provided and all ages are welcome!

In this workshop, you can create your own original ceramic cup, bowl or plate. Naoko will provide you with one of her own studio crafted cups, bowls or plates to decorate with underglaze and a beautiful selection of handmade tissue transfers imported directly from Japan. Your creation will be professionally glazed, fired and delivered back to Japaneasy (or if you’d prefer, pick it up from Naoko’s Studio in Montmorency or have it delivered to your home at the cost of shipping) around 4 weeks later, ready to use or gift to someone special! age: 7+

Shiori Ningyo – Japanese paper doll workshop

Come and join us in this workshop to create your own paper doll art using Chiyogami, a traditional Japanese paper used in paper doll and accessory making. Chiyogami uses beautiful, graphic patterns resembling those used in kimono. In this class, we will be using the foundational technique of paper-doll making to create a little boy/girl Shiori Ningyo. Once your doll is made, we’ll personalise it together by decorating and framing it to create your own individual artwork. All materials will be provided, no experience is necessary. (Scissors will be used in this class)

Traditional Japanese Calligraphy 書道

Learn the beautiful art of traditional Japanese Calligraphy! Japanese calligraphy (書道, shodō) also called shūji (習字) is a form of calligraphy, or artistic writing, of the Japanese language. The art of brought to Japan by a Chinese calligrapher from the 4th century, but after the invention of Hiragana and Katakana, the Japanese unique syllabaries, the distinctive Japanese writing system developed and calligraphers produced styles intrinsic to Japan. The term shodō (書道, “way of writing”) is of Chinese origin as it is widely used to describe the art of Chinese calligraphy during the medieval Tang dynasty.
You will learn how to paint pictographic characters with an ink-drenched brush and a focused mind. Not only does this improve your kanji, you’ll also create a masterpiece with special Japanese card paper on SHIKISHI to hang on your wall.
